Side pull halters are available in regular, extra knots or bosalter styles in any of the halter rope I carry. The side pull halter is constructed in the same way as my regular or extra knots rope halters except, as I make it, I space the nose knots lower on the sides and tie in rings - solid brass or stainless steel - so reins can be attached. I also make the cheek pieces a bit longer so the noseband fits lower on the nose giving you more leverage. Then I attach an adjustable chin strap (made with braiding

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God
—those whom he has called according to his plan.
Romans 8:28 GW
NEVER LEAVE A ROPE HALTER ON A HORSE THAT IS UNATTENDED. DO NOT TURN OUT A HORSE WEARING A ROPE HALTER. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY UNBREAKABLE SO IF YOUR HORSE GETS CAUGHT ON SOMETHING, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD RESULT.
1/4" stiff cord
The criss cross rope becomes part of the noseband so there will be 3 strands of rope across the top of the nose instead of 2 as on a normal rope halter. The criss cross rope must be the 1/4" soft rope but the halter can be made in any of the halter rope or cord - soft, semi-stiff or stiff. Choose a matching or contrasting color for the criss cross rope.

cord) to the rings so you can snug up the noseband. This keeps the side pull halter in the correct position and prevents it from riding up the face or sliding around the nose when you engage the reins.

Extra Knot Noseband
The criss-cross rope goes through the center of the knots making them a bit thicker than a normal rope halter with extra knots.
Available on side pulls made with soft rope, semi-stiff cord or stiff cord.

With all riding halters - Check the fiador knot under the chin often. If you do not usually have a lead rope attached, the fiador knot could become loose and the dimensions and even-ness of your halter could be affected. If you see signs of loosening, grasp all strands of rope on each side and pull to tighten the knot. Always lead your horse by holding the fiador knot and/or the loops below the knot or attaching a lead rope.

Indian Bosal Side Pull Halters have become popular for bitless riding. Most of the construction is the same as the side pull halter described above - nose knots spaced lower, cheek pieces a bit longer than my usual halter - but there is no need for a separate chin strap. A third strand of rope goes over the noseband, criss crosses under the chin keeping the noseband in place, and each end becomes a rein connector. When you pick up on one rein, the horse feels the pressure on the opposite side and will yield away from that pressure. When you pick up on both reins, the noseband tightens up giving you more stopping power than a simple side pull.
I make the halter first (regular or extra knots), then loosen the noseband knots and feed the additional strand of rope through the knots, tie in small rings on each side, criss cross the rope and insert through the opposite ring, then tie a double overhand knot to make a loop on the end where you attach your reins.
Chain Braid Noseband
The criss cross rope is interwoven with the 2 strands of rope across the top of a regular halter noseband. This interweaving secures the 3rd strand of rope and creates a rounded, bulkier noseband that is a bit firmer than a regular rope halter.
Available on side pulls made with soft rope or stiff cord.
Not available for 5/16" semi-stiff cord

Side Pull Halters are versatile pieces of equipment – great for training or bitless riding. With a side pull halter, your reins are attached on the side of the nose - close to where they are attached when using a snaffle bit - making it a great transition tool. You can send clear signals using your direct rein - great for flexing and working on turns.
It's versatility is wonderful. You can do warm up ground work using a lead rope attached to the halter loops, then clip your reins to the rings and you're ready to ride. No need to change equipment. And when on the trail and you need to tie up - your halter is already there. I rode my horse Brandy with an extra knots stiff side pull halter and it was great!
