Checklist for ordering a Slip Leash
1. total length
2. color of rope

I can make collars in any size and leashes in any length. The standard slip collar will fit a variety of dogs but I can make it a certain size if needed. Same for the slip leash. The minimum length for a regular leash depends on the diameter of rope - the splicing requires a certain amount of rope for each size. There is no maximum - I have made 30'+ lines for dogs. Since I make most collars and leashes as they are ordered, you can get exactly what you want.
When ordering, please tell me the total length that you want. I count the total length from end to end of the slip collar or leash - including the snap, if any, and all the way to the end of the hand loop. The standard size hand loop has about a 6" inside diameter (see picture below). I can make it larger to accomodate gloves or larger hands or I can make it smaller. Since this is a handmade product, I cannot guarantee the collar/leash will be exactly a certain length but it will be within about an inch or so. I measure carefully when tying knots and count strands when splicing, but sometimes things end up just a bit longer or shorter.

This is a simple, economical collar/leash combination -- slide the loop over the dog's head and you have a choke collar with the leash attached.
My neice who is a dog breeder loves these!
I make this style with the 1/4" rope using double overhand knots (same knots as a rope halter). Nothing is spliced - which keeps the cost down. I can make the collar end eye with or without a sliding ring knot. The sliding knot will give you options on the amount of "slip".
I can make the slip leash any length but the standard size is 5' total length which will give you about a 20" collar and 3' leash - great for a large dog. The same slip leash on a smaller dog will give you a longer leash.

I tie an additional "stopper knot" in the collar section so you can set how much "slip" you want the leash to have. You can loosen this knot, slide the rope through it, then re-tighten it wherever you want it. With the knot close to the end, you will have a choke collar. You can place the knot farther from the end to set a limit on how tight the leash will slip.
The knot will become permanent after a few hard pulls so set it where you want it fairly soon.
On the style with the sliding ring knot in the collar end eye, you can open the eye far enough to go over the stopper knot and choose if you want a choke collar or non-choke collar without having to move the stopper knot.

I make most items for dogs with the soft double braid - in 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2". I have a few "standard" products but I have made a lot of custom items for dogs. I have even made training sticks for herding dogs! As with my other tack, you can get the plain and simple version or customize with braided trim.
This is very similar to the slip leash but obviously shorter. I can also add a brass or stainless steel ring at the end for easy attachment of a leash. I can make it any size - just measure your dog's neck and I will make the collar accordingly.
Not recommended to leave on your dog all the time due to choking hazard if the collar gets caught on something.
Price: add $ .50 for additional brass or stainless steel ring at leash end

Slip Collar
This leash is the style that you would use with a collar that has a ring where you attach the snap. It has a spliced hand loop on one end and a snap on the other - refer to the hardware section above for types of snaps and splices available. I can make a regular leash with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" diameter rope in any length. Minimum length will depend on the type of splice for the snap end and the diameter of the rope.

This is the rope I use to make the slip collars and slip leashes. Also a good choice for regular leashes for smaller dogs and for longer lines.

Three Section Long Line
- Handler end is made with 1/2" rope so it is more comfortable to hold. Hand loop on one end, eye splice on other end to attach other section.
- Dog end is made with 1/4" rope. Medium bolt snaps are attached on regular eye splices (splicing is done before the knots are tied to create the loop for attaching middle section)
- Middle section is made with 1/4" rope. Eye splice on both ends to attach to other pieces
Can be used without the center section. Handler end can be attached directly to Dog end for a shorter leash.

Checklist for ordering a Regular Leash

Flat braid splice (core of the rope is removed, a simple eye splice is made). Usually only on custom items.
- advantage: no restrictions on length - can make shorter leash
- can splice snap in permanently or attach with eye spliced loop (flat braid eye splice makes smaller "lump")
- disadvantage: splice is not as strong as a full double braid splice - usually not a problem with dog items but will depend on intended use of the product
For regular leashes, long lines and other custom orders, you will probably want a snap for easy attachment to the collar. I can splice the snap in permantly or attach it on an eye spliced loop using full double braid splicing - same price for either one. I can also make a flat braid eye splice (without the core). Each option has advantages and disadvantages.

1/2" Double Braid Polyester
This makes a great regular leash for larger dogs. It is comfortable in your hand and easy to hold onto.
For regular leashes and custom items.
Removable attachment on an eye spliced loop (rope is eye spliced using regular method then looped through/around the snap ring)
- advantage: easy to replace a broken snap or switch to something different; strong splice
- disadvantage: makes a bulky connection - looping through snap ring makes a lump (the larger the rope diameter, the bigger the lump)
You can choose any of the snaps and rings I carry but the "horse size" snaps will probably be too large and heavy for most dog items. The most common hardware items used on dog products are medium size bolt snaps and small rings. I don't think I have made any dog leashes with scissor snaps, but that is an option as well.
