"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."

John 10:27-30  ESV

Extra Knots Halters (like the ones used by Clinton Anderson - called 4-knot halters by some) have two additional knots on the top part of the noseband.  These are between the two knots on the sides of the noseband that connect with the cheek pieces.  These "extra knots" are the same double overhand knots that make up the rest of the halter and are tied into the noseband as the halter is made.  Therefore, they are the same material - rope type and color - as the rest of the halter.  Hopefully this explanation will clear up any confusion about the possibility of "extra knots" being a different color.  (If you are interested in putting additional braided knots on the noseband, you could choose from several colors for that option. Click on Halter Custom Trim for possibilities.)

A regular rope halter is much better for training than a nylon web or leather halter because it is thinner and not as comfortable for your horse to lean on and ignore your cues.  An extra knots halter adds even more motivation by creating additional points of pressure across the top of the nose.  A stiff halter cord is the usual type of rope used, but extra knots halters can be ordered in any of the rope I carry - soft, semi-stiff or stiff - so you can choose the level of firmness that suits your needs and is best for you and your horse at your particular stage of training.  Adding extra knots to a soft halter may be all the extra "bite" that you need. Or, if you have a very disrespectful horse, a halter made with the thinner, stiffer cord with extra knots may get your message across much better.
Remember ~ the thinner the rope and the stiffer the rope, the more aggressive the halter will be.

NEVER LEAVE A ROPE HALTER ON A HORSE THAT IS UNATTENDED. DO NOT TURN OUT A HORSE WEARING A ROPE HALTER. THEY ARE VIRTUALLY UNBREAKABLE SO IF YOUR HORSE GETS CAUGHT ON SOMETHING, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD RESULT.

If you plan to use your halter under a bridle, please let me know - I will make the side nose knots a bit higher so they won't interfere with the headstall.  (a regular halter is usually the best option for under a bridle)
