I can add braided trim or knots to coordinate with the end finishes of your reins. They can be for decoration or to mark specific places on the rein to aid in training the horse or the rider. Many customers request a center marker knot - a handy little addition! But since these styles of reins are adjustable and many times I do not have the piece of equipment you will be tying them to, knot placement can be a little tricky. You will have to tie them on and adjust the length so the center knot is actually in the center and any side trim is evenly spaced. An option is to make the knots as sliders (not attached to the rope) so you can position them when you get the reins.
I can make loop reins in any length in a variety of rope diameters. The usual length for loop reins is in the 9 - 10' range but I have made them as short as 6' and as long as 13'. The finished length is counted from end to end of the rope - the buttons, knots and tassels are not included in the total length.
The most common diameter is 1/2". I carry 3/8" rope for those who want something lighter and thinner - nice for kids or adults with small hands. The 5/8" rope is a good choice for those wanting something a little thicker and more substantial in the hand - nice for those with arthritis.
An economical choice for tassels - each end of the rope is back spliced and 3 strands of lacing cord are inserted through the rope to create a small tassel. Standard length is about 5" as shown in picture but I can make the tassels any length.
The back splice makes the rope a little less flexible near the end so you will need to allow for a "tail" when tying onto a halter or bosal or using with slobber straps. About 4 - 6" of extra length will be needed on each end so keep that in mind when ordering the length of your loop reins.

This is the most decorative and unique style. Each end can be finished with a medium or large pineapple knot button or a large pineapple knot and tassel. Choose 2 colors to show off the intricate details of this beautiful knot. Choose 1 to 4 (or more) colors for the tassel to match the rope or coordinate with the knot and rope.
The rope is flexible all the way to the knot so there is no need for any additonal "tail" when tying on or using with slobber straps. The knots can be snugged right up to the slobber strap or noseband if needed.
Note that the medium size knot has 5 rows of zigzags, the large size has 7 rows of zigzags. The medium knots should fit through most slobber strap holes/slits. The large knots will need straps with large holes and/or longer slits. (Check out my unique rope slobber straps - no problem getting the larger knots through those.)

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Loop reins (sometimes called closed reins) are the style of choice for most natural horsemanship methods. They are a continuous piece of rope with both ends attached to the bit or rope halter, bosal, etc. They make it easy to slide your hands down the reins for direct contact and to give immediate release. You also don’t have to worry about dropping a split rein or deal with the extra rope of a mecate all the time.
On this page, you will find reins that are made to be tied onto something - a bosal or other type of noseband, a rope halter or slobber straps. I make several styles so you can choose from reins that are simple and economical to very fancy and unique, with many options in between.

A basic style - each end is back spliced and finished with a small piece of leather lace - this is not a popper, just a bit of trim to make a nice finish.
As with the tassel-ettes, the back splice makes the rope a little less flexible near the end so you will need to allow for a "tail" when tying onto a halter or bosal or using with slobber straps. About 4 - 6" of extra length will be needed on the end so keep that in mind when ordering the length of your loop reins.

How long should you order your reins?
If you plan to tie your reins to a bosal or halter, you will need about 1 - 2 feet (1/2" rope) of additional length depending on the method you use to tie onto the halter, how many loops around a bosal, the style of reins, etc. So if you want 9' of useable rein length, order reins that are 10' (or longer).
Reins to be used with slobber straps will probably need to be a few inches longer than the useable rein length desired but it really depends on how the reins are finished and how long your slobber straps are. For reins made with the 1/2" rope, it can take about 6 - 9" off each end to loop around the slobber strap (some styles may take more). But then the slobber strap will add back some length - usually about 6" each side. So you could have a net loss of a few inches depending on the length of your slobber straps. (The 3/8" rope will require less to tie on, the 5/8" rope will require more.)
You can always adjust your rein length when using slobber straps or tying on by sliding the rope through the knot or slobber straps. It is easy to make your reins shorter, but there is a limit to how much longer you will be able to make them. So keep this in mind when deciding what length to order.
This option is unique but economical. The Basic Buttons are the same braided knot that I use on lead ropes - a bulky button that makes a good stopper. You can choose 1, 2, or 3 colors for these buttons.
I do not offer a tassel with this option. There should be no problem using this style with most slobber straps.
The rope is flexible all the way to the knot so there is no need for any additonal "tail" when tying on. The knot can be snugged right up to the slobber strap or noseband if needed.

The most economical style - plain and simple. The rope is back spliced for a nice finished end with no other embellishment.
As stated before, the back splice makes the rope a little less flexible near the end so you will need to allow for a "tail" when tying onto a halter or bosal or using with slobber straps. About 4 - 6" of extra length will be needed on the end so keep that in mind when ordering the length of your loop reins.
The Turkshead Knot is very decorative as well but not as complicated as the pineapple knot so it is a little less expensive. I can make these in the doubleweave (DW) or interweave pattern (IW). The tripled knot (DW3) is an option if you want 3 colors (available only with the tassel). Choose up to 4 colors (or more) for the tassel - to match the rope or coordinate with the rope and the knot.
The rope is flexible all the way to the knot so there is no need for any additonal "tail" when tying on or using with slobber straps. The knots can be snugged right up to the slobber strap or noseband if needed.
The knots without the tassels should fit through most slobber strap holes/slits. The knots with the tassels will need straps with large holes and/or longer slits. (There will be no problem using these reins with my rope slobber straps.)
