ABOUT THE HARDWARE....

Snaps.jpg (140078 bytes)

All my products can be purchased and used without hardware for those who prefer not to use metal with their horses. But for those who like snaps, I try to provide high quality hardware to use with my rope tack. I do not guarantee that the snaps I carry will not break - most hardware will break at some point.  If your horse has a history of breaking snaps, they can be attached in such a way that if they do break, they can be easily replaced. That way, your lead rope or reins will still be usable since the rope will outlast any snap. You may alternately choose to have your snap permanently spliced in which makes a slimmer profile.

Bronze vs. Brass. There is a technical difference (bronze is an alloy of copper and tin while brass is an alloy of copper and zinc) but there is little difference in properties. Both terms are used interchangeably in the hardware industry.

Brass plating vs. nickel plating. Both serve as a protective coating for steel and malleable iron products. Solid brass and brass plating is more expensive to manufacture, thus the added cost. Nickel plating is more economical and is the standard coating used on most farm/ranch hardware.

Brass Twist Snap: This snap is similar to the kind used by Parelli and other top trainers. Twist the center mechanism to release or close the snap. It has the capability to be released even while under tension but will not come undone "by itself" like regular panic snaps can. Overall length is 4 ¼". Swivel lead attachment eye is 1 1/8" diameter. Snap end eye is ¾" diameter. Twist Snap no rope.jpg (112702 bytes)

Brass Bolt Snap: For those who like a "regular" snap that can be operated with one hand. 4 ¾" overall length. Swivel lead attachment eye is 1 ¼" diameter. Snap opening is  5/8 ". Bolt Snap no rope.jpg (115357 bytes)

Brass Bull Snap: A heavy durable snap. 3 ¾" overall length. Swivel lead attachment eye is 7/8" diameter. Snap opening is 1/2". Bull Snap no rope.jpg (121610 bytes)

Ring/Spring Clip: A versatile set—the ring can be used alone to create a lariat-type loop with your rope or attach the clip to connect your rope to any piece of equipment. Nickel-plated welded steel ring is 1 ¾" inside diameter. Heavy duty, nickel-plated spring clip is 3 1/8" overall length. Large end is 7/8" inside diameter. Ring clip no rope.jpg (117768 bytes)

Scissor Snap: Makes attaching reins to a bit a "snap"! Solid Brass or Nickel-plated. Overall length is 2 ¾". Swivel eye is ¾" inside diameter. Scissor eye is 7/16" inside diameter. Scissor Snaps no rope.jpg (143247 bytes)

Conway Buckle: Used on my buckle straps to make a leather loop or on headstalls. Solid Brass or Nickel-plated. Overall length is 1 1/2". Made for 5/8" wide straps. Conway Buckles.jpg (139002 bytes)

Welded Rings: Used to create sidepulls and bitless bridles when tied into the knots of halters and bosalters.  Brass-plated or Nickel-plated.  1" inside diameter.  Small Rings.jpg (111543 bytes)

Small Brass Bolt Snap: For various uses on halters and headstalls.  3" overall length.  Swivel attachment eye is 3/8" diameter.  Snap opening is 1/4+".   Small Bolt Snap no rope.jpg (96369 bytes)
